Research Assistant

• Genetic manipulation of bacteria isolated from the human gut
• Testing genetically engineered bacteria in vitro
• Record and document methods and results in electronic laboratory notebooks
• Various lab maintenance tasks

• Master’s degree in molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry or equivalent
• Familiar with molecular biology techniques (e.g., cloning, PCR, gel electrophoresis) and microbiological techniques (e.g., culture techniques, genetic manipulation of bacteria)
• Strong background in bacterial physiology, metabolism, and genetics
• Analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with strong collaboration and interpersonal skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks both within project work and within lab maintenance
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Prior experience with CRISPR/Cas systems and/or conjugative plasmids and/or genetic manipulation of gram-positive bacteria is a plus
