This role supports the Lateral Violence and Lateral Empowerment project focused on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth in South Australia. You’ll help facilitate culturally safe research that listens to young people’s voices and strengthens their social and emotional wellbeing, while contributing to future interventions and community-led solutions.
Job Responsibility
Support delivery of the Lateral Violence & Lateral Empowerment research project
Assist with research documentation (flyers, consent forms, information sheets)
Recruit and engage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people through yarning circles and one-on-one interviews
Collect data through interviews, surveys and questionnaires
Build relationships with communities and participate in community events
Contribute to data analysis, reports, publications and presentations
Maintain accurate research records and databases
Participate in cultural and team activities
Perform duties in line with SAHMRI’s Vision, Mission and Values and the Code of Conduct Policy and the South Australian Aboriginal Health Research Accord
Requirements
Experience in Aboriginal Health, wellbeing, or community programs
Degree in health or social sciences, courses related to health or community work, health worker training or currently studying for higher degree is desirable
Experience supporting research projects or data collection (including yarning methods)
Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
Attention to detail and strong organisational skills
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Confidence using Microsoft Office and research tools/ databases
A proactive, positive and culturally respectful approach
Experience with Microsoft Office particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint
