Research Assistant

• Work at the intersection of evolutionary, molecular, micro and synthetic biology, to address questions about bacterial transcriptional regulation and antimicrobial resistance
• Design synthetic genetic systems in bacteria to ask fundamental and applied questions about diverse topics: evolution of multidrug resistance
• regulation of multi-drug efflux pumps
• evolution of bacterial promoters and transcription factors
• transcriptional crosstalk between plasmids and bacterial hosts
• Use Escherichia coli as a model system

• Experience in molecular biology (molecular cloning on bacterial plasmids and chromosomes
• Next-generation sequencing)
• Experience in microbiology (sterile techniques
• bacterial growth and fluorescence assays in plate reader and flow cytometer)
• Experience in experimental evolution
• Hold a qualification at QCF level 6 (such as a bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in a relevant biological science subject OR QCF level 2 passes (such as GCSE’s) in English and Mathematics and at least one Science subject and substantial relevant experience of working in a research laboratory
