Position Summary/ Department Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated individual for a full-time (Chemistry) Research Assistant position in the Translational Research Lab (TRL) in the Department of Cardiology at Boston Children’s Hospital. We are an interdisciplinary research team developing new technologies including injectable oxygen therapies and nanomaterials for imaging and therapeutic applications.
Job Responsibility:
Perform surgical procedures in rodents (such as intubation, catheterization, line-placement, sternotomy, tail-vein injection)
Develop and optimize rodent animal models under the supervision of PIs
Document and analyze experimental data
Assist large animal experiments, including basic large animal husbandry, pre-surgical planning, intra-operative procedure and post-operative management
Lab keeping responsibilities, including maintaining inventories, purchasing supplies, attending monthly lab support and safety meetings
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree is required
Master’s degree is preferred in Biological or Physiological Sciences, Biomedical Engineering or closely related field
Animal surgical experience is highly desired but not required
Must be comfortable working and handling common lab animals including but not limited to mice, rats, and swine
Ability to work both independently and as a team member
The ability to accurately carry out protocols with an emphasis on attention to details, and good record keeping
Open-mindedness, good communicational, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Willingness and curiosity to learn new skills and unfamiliar techniques
Nice to have:
Animal surgical experience
Master’s degree in Biological or Physiological Sciences, Biomedical Engineering or closely related field
