WAtoday is looking for an enthusiastic reporter who wants to take the next step in their career and join our team of skilled journalists at the Nine Publishing masthead based in Perth. The role requires a multi-skilled journalist with the ability to write with authority across a range of subjects including business, politics and local councils. The reporter will be expected to combine breaking news, analysis and feature writing capability at the highest level. We are looking for someone who can break news of national significance that will also be published in our sister publications, the Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and Brisbane Times.
Job Responsibility:
Break news stories from across WA, including business and property news, civil and criminal court matters, and local government developments
Write impactful and exclusive stories with national relevance, to be shared across Nine's mastheads
Produce in-depth coverage of topics relevant to readers in Perth and Western Australia, including feature-length investigations
Deliver clean, accurate, and timely copy to meet the fast-paced demands of the newsroom
Maintain and develop relationships with key figures across WA’s business, politics, development and local government sectors to source stories
Write numerous stories a week for the news website, ensuring consistency in quality
Requirements:
Proven experience as a journalist, preferably for a major news organisation
Demonstrated knowledge in courts, local government, development and planning and/or property market reporting
Proven track record of breaking major news stories and producing well-researched, insightful content
A contact book that covers Perth and broader WA will be beneficial
A clear, professional writing style with a demonstrated ability to produce clean, engaging copy
Comfortable working under tight deadlines in a fast-paced news environment
