Job Description

We are currently recruiting for a Rental Income Support Officer to join a Local Authority team on a mainly remote basis. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced income officer to play a key role in maximising rental income while supporting residents to sustain their tenancies. You will be responsible for managing a patch of rent accounts, providing proactive support to residents, and taking early action to prevent rent arrears while delivering excellent customer service.

Job Responsibility

  • Manage a portfolio of rent accounts and maximise rental income collection
  • Proactively contact residents when arrears occur and agree sustainable repayment plans
  • Provide advice and support relating to Housing Benefit and Universal Credit
  • Ensure all arrears cases follow relevant legal processes and pre-action protocols
  • Prepare documentation for legal action, court hearings, and possession proceedings when required
  • Work closely with tenancy teams, welfare advisors, and external support agencies
  • Maintain accurate case notes and financial records within housing management systems
  • Deliver excellent customer service while supporting vulnerable residents

Requirements

  • Proven experience in income collection or rent arrears management within social housing or a local authority
  • Strong knowledge of housing legislation, welfare benefits, and arrears recovery processes
  • Experience managing rent accounts and negotiating repayment agreements
  • Ability to work independently and manage a busy caseload
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
