In this role, you will contribute directly to improving turnaround times and strengthening the overall underwriting experience for advisors and clients across Canada. You will play a key role in supporting a large-scale underwriting operation, working alongside experienced teams to review and assess insurance applications, ensure consistency in decision-making, and help maintain high standards of quality and efficiency. Your expertise will support faster processing times, improved service levels, and the continued evolution of underwriting practices. This position offers the opportunity to work in a structured, collaborative environment with clear processes, strong leadership support, and a focus on continuous improvement. You will be part of a team of experienced professionals dedicated to delivering reliable and timely underwriting decisions while supporting business growth.

Job Responsibility

  • Assess and process underwriting cases for life, critical illness, and disability insurance
  • Improve turnaround times and contribute to performance objectives (targeting a 5–7 day reduction)
  • Ensure quality, consistency, and compliance in underwriting decisions
  • Collaborate with managers and internal teams on day-to-day operational follow-up
  • Participate in continuous improvement of underwriting processes and tools
  • Support effective management of case volumes and adherence to performance indicators (SLAs)
  • Apply and share best practices in underwriting and risk assessment
  • Support knowledge transfer and training within the team
  • Use underwriting tools and reference materials (e.g., RGA GUM manual, if applicable)

Requirements

  • 5–10 years of experience in underwriting (senior level)
  • Experience in life, critical illness, and disability insurance underwriting
  • Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, risk assessment, and decision-making
  • Experience in high-volume, SLA-driven environments
  • Focus on quality, consistency, and compliance
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills

Nice to have

  • Experience with process improvement and operational efficiency (asset)
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset
  • Familiarity with underwriting tools/manuals (e.g., RGA GUM) is an asset
