Job Description

We are looking for a Reinsurance Accountant to join our team in New York, New York, supporting key financial operations for a financial services organization. This is a long-term contract position designed for someone who excels in fast-paced environments and has a strong background in accounting processes. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in managing reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance in all financial records.

Job Responsibility

  • Manage and execute month-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate completion
  • Prepare and record journal entries, maintaining precision and consistency in financial documentation
  • Reconcile accounts and bank statements to identify discrepancies and ensure accuracy
  • Handle ceded calculations and reinsurance-related financial tasks with a thorough attention to detail
  • Generate and manage billing processes, ensuring adherence to organizational standards
  • Collaborate with team members to support general ledger maintenance and updates
  • Utilize expertise to identify and resolve issues in financial reconciliations
  • Ensure compliance with accounting regulations and organizational policies
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives to enhance financial operations efficiency

Requirements

  • Experience in insurance or reinsurance accounting is required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required
  • Proficiency in managing general ledger accounts and preparing journal entries
  • Strong skills in account and bank reconciliations, with attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic team environment
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to financial tasks

Nice to have

  • Property and casualty (P&C) insurance accounting practices is preferred
  • Knowledge of advanced accounting systems
  • familiarity with FIS System or Procede is a plus
