The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care including, but not limited to, executing Licensed Independent Provider's orders, dispensing and administering medications, and assisting Licensed Independent Provider in examinations and treatment of patients. Applies nursing and supervisory techniques required in the care, treatment and referrals of inmates/residents. Performs all technical/clinical procedures within the scope of his/her education and licensure.
Job Responsibility:
Plan and provide comprehensive nursing care
Attend sick call with the physician
Prepare examining room and equipment
Call Licensed Independent Providers for orders and emergencies
Refer inmates/residents to appropriate healthcare facilities
Assist in coordinating professional medical services by contract personnel
Monitor inmate/resident inpatient hospitalizations for early releases
Maintain good working relationships
Use sound independent judgment
Regularly evaluate provision of medical services
Assist with review of medical files
Closely monitor all potential catastrophic illnesses
Audit pharmacy use for adherence to formulary
Comply with pharmacy laws
Observe and record inmate/resident behavior
Inspect medical unit for contraband
Provide health counseling and health education
Prepare and maintain records, reports, and logs
Review, process and respond to lawsuits
Attend court hearings
Evaluate and recommend physical safety requirements
Facilitate NCCHC/ACA/JCAHO accreditation
Escort or coordinate movement of inmates/residents for treatment
Engage in functions in confined areas
Take action to prevent or diffuse disruptive situations
Requirements:
Must live 70+ miles from the facility
Registered Nurse (RN) licensure
Ability to execute Licensed Independent Provider's orders
Ability to dispense and administer medications
Ability to assist in examinations and treatment of patients
Ability to apply nursing and supervisory techniques
Ability to perform technical/clinical procedures within scope of education and licensure
Ability to operate pill call and document medication
Ability to examine and assess patients
Ability to perform emergency procedures
Ability to supervise licensed vocational/practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff
Ability to maintain security and confidentiality of medical records
Ability to read, analyze, comprehend and interpret medical and technical procedures, governmental regulations, legal and non-legal documents
Ability to prepare and disseminate safety reports
Ability to perform searches
Ability to work in confined areas and perform rescue functions
