UC San Diego Health is a Magnet designated organization. Jacobs Medical Center BMT unit offers the only Blood and Marrow Transplant program in San Diego that is affiliated with a renowned School of Medicine and accredited by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Hematopoietic Therapy (FACT). We focus on Blood and Marrow Transplant on our 36-bed private room unit. The growing list of diseases, as well as non-malignant conditions we treat includes: lymphoma and Hodgkin’s disease, acute and chronic leukemia, multiple myeloma, myelodysplastic syndrome, sarcoma, testicular cancer, aplastic anemia, auto-immune and genetic diseases.
Job Responsibility:
Under general supervision, identifies and implements nursing interventions and evaluated results for a wide variety of patient populations
Directs and acts as resource to other members of the nursing team as assigned
Promotes compliance and support of policies
Achieves trust in professional collegial relationships
Requirements:
Must be a graduate from an accredited school of Nursing
RN License issued by the State of California
BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date
Commitment to get Chemotherapy Certification within 1 year from hire date
Minimum six (6) months of recent acute care RN experience in BMT or Oncology PCU
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage multiple levels of information and responsibilities, and to quickly assess moderately-complex problems to develop potential solutions
Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and consistently demonstrate empathy and kindness to all staff and patients
Demonstrates critical thinking and clinical skills to identify and implement nursing interventions and evaluate results
Must have excellent skills to communicate and influence effectively with all levels of staff, physicians, patients and external constituents, both verbally and in writing
