Registered Nurse - Medical ICU

UC San Diego Health has held its Magnet status since 2011. Provides direct care to critical care patients using the nursing process in the clinic setting. Develops and provides treatment plans as requested. Promotes self-care through education. Organizes and maintains clinic equipment and supplies. The 13-bed mixed Medical ICU/Coronary Contained Unit specializes in Pre-Cardiac Transplants, Congestive Heart Failure, Acute MI, CRRT, neurological patients and complex ventilation using the latest equipment and technologies. The Charge and Code RNs are readily available to assist with complex patients. Our physician partners are true professors who are willing to invest the time and energy to provide education specific to treatment and research. The unit is actively involved in promoting community health. Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.
