The Main OR has 14 Operating Rooms that include: 2 Endovascular rooms, 2 Open Heart rooms, 1 Cysto room, 1 da Vinci Robot room, and 1 Pediatric room. Services include: General Surgery (Adult and Peds), ENT (Adult and Peds), Urology (Adult and Peds), Vascular, Thoracic, Heart, Neuro, Podiatry, Ophthalmology, and Oral Surgery. The Operating Room is staffed 24/7. Pre-Op Holding (POH) is staffed Monday through Friday from 0530-1930 and on-call Saturday and Sunday 0645-1500. The Main PACU is a 24 bed unit, staffed 24/7 with call to accommodate surgeries.
Job Responsibility:
Coordinates patient care planning with other disciplines
Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists
Writes or obtains initial nursing histories, assesses patients' conditions and develops individual care plans
maintains patient documentation
Receives and reviews preceding shift reports and floor nurse reports
makes complete rounds
Notifies appropriate physician regarding any unusual or unexpected events
Works with other members of the interdisciplinary patient care team
implements and reinforces patient instructional needs
Evaluates outcomes of patient care, consults with other specialists
Identifies and resolves workplace health and safety issues
Provides appropriate, direct patient care utilizing appropriate aseptic techniques
May manage IV lines, ensure sterile techniques are adhered to, oversee patient movement and positioning
May perform the administration of pharmacological vasodilator medications for nuclear myocardial perfusion imaging
Complies with policies, procedures, regulations, and standards
Orients, instructs, and educates assigned personnel
Adheres to and supports team members in exhibiting TMCH values
Adheres to TMC organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies and standards
Requirements:
Graduation from a qualified, nationally-accredited nursing program
Current RN licensure permitting work in the State of Arizona
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
One year of nursing experience in an acute care setting preferred
Knowledge of direct patient care and critical care procedures and techniques
Skill in communicating in a clear and concise manner
Skill in reading 12-lead EKG
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules
Ability to listen and accurately interpret others’ communication
Ability to speak and communicate effectively
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Nice to have:
Two (2) years of EP experience or demonstrated competency in all areas of EP Lab procedures (for EP positions)
Advanced life support certification (ACLS and PALS) for OR, Ambulatory Surgery, Pediatrics/PICU, PACU, and GI Lab
Neonatal Resuscitation certification for NICU
EP certification from International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners for Special Competency in Cardiac Electrophysiology
Valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card within 6 months of hire for Hospice & Pediatrics
Crisis Prevention Instruction (CPI) for Mental Health
Ability to provide family centered developmentally appropriate care of newborns (NICU only)
Ability to handle the emotional stress associated with caring for a critically ill newborn or neonate (NICU only)
Ability to formulate a plan of care and support multidisciplinary collaboration (NICU only)
