The Nurse Supervisor is responsible for providing general patient care according to nursing protocols, supervision of clinic support staff, and serving as a member of the Student Health Services Leadership Team. The Nurse Supervisor serves as the Infection Prevention and Control Coordinator and provides input for policy, procedure and process changes or revisions in collaboration with the Clinical Supervisor and Medical Director. This role will contribute to collaborative development and implementation of clinic policies, procedures, and workflows to continuously maintain accreditation standards and readiness. This role has supervision of clinical support staff to include but not limited to: scheduling, managing leave requests, timesheet approvals, performance evaluations, and general supervision of direct reports medical assistants and LPN’s. Duties also include overseeing inventory and ordering of clinical supplies/medications, and provides nursing skills and functions to support and maintain clinic readiness while overseeing patient flow. The Nurse Supervisor role will support and participate in Allergy and Immunization compliance and provide cross coverage needs, QI, Risk Management, and peer review initiatives, assist with education, training and orientation of new and existing staff, collaborate with university organizations, and act as a resource for clinic staff and contributing to the success of the department.

Requirements:
Considerable knowledge and experience with outpatient adult/adolescent ambulatory care practices and basic nursing skills needed in ambulatory practice
Basic knowledge of unique needs of college age student population
Basic demonstrated ability to relate health education information to a student population
Basic knowledge and skills in phlebotomy skills and IV training
Basic ability to administer EKGs & nebulizer treatments
Basic knowledge of managing allergy immunotherapy
Considerable knowledge of adolescent and adult immunization requirements
Considerable demonstrated ability to perform physical assessment functions and document in medical record appropriately
Demonstrated ability to work with physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, health educators, MA’s, and other healthcare staff
Some demonstrated knowledge of and skill in the operation of an outpatient clinic facility including day-to-day clinical roles, functions and schedules
Considerable skills in telephone and in-person triage
Considerable demonstrated knowledge of Medicat or other electronic medical recordkeeping systems and accurate and appropriate chart documentation
Basic computer skills
Considerable knowledge of leadership and management styles and proven application of knowledge in supervisory roles
Considerable and effective verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and customer service skills
Registration in Virginia as a registered nurse or valid compact/Multi-State License
BLS/CPR for Health Providers Certification
Graduate of an accredited Bachelor of Science or Master’s degree in nursing program from an institute of higher education
Considerable nursing experience in a hospital or outpatient healthcare setting and ambulatory setting, preferably adult/adolescent medicine, or college health
separate from clinical experience obtained while seeking a nursing degree
Demonstrated experience effectively communicating and engaging with varying audiences
Some experience working with college-aged students
Considerable experience with customer service recovery and de-escalation skills in a healthcare setting
Considerable experience with inventory management
Demonstrated leadership and project management skills
Some knowledge of infection prevention control management
Some experience with healthcare accreditation surveys (e.g
JCAHO, AAAHC, DNV)
Certification in Ambulatory Care (AMB-BC)
Considerable knowledge of VA laws regarding immunizations for full time college students and immunization schedule for pediatric/adolescent/adult population
