The 6th Floor is a 45 bed acute care progressive care unit at UC San Diego Health's Hillcrest Campus located near downtown San Diego. The unit provides care for a population of high acuity adult medical-surgical patients, oncology and infectious disease. Team members demonstrate self-determination, an ability to adapt to complex and rapidly changing environments, possess excellent oral and written communication skills, provide care that is patient and family centered, participate in shared governance councils and committees, and are committed to contributing to professional practice that generates quality outcomes and improves the Experience of both our patients and our team members. Professional development, life-long learning, and relationship-building are key values. Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.
Requirements
Must be a graduate from an accredited school of Nursing
RN License issued by the State of California
BART or BLS and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get UCSD ART within six (6) months of hire date
A minimum of one (1) year of acute care RN experience at the Progressive Care Unit/Intermediate Care Unit (PCU/IMU) level or higher
Demonstrates a solid understanding of nursing-sensitive indicators relevant to PCU/IMU and integrates these measures into daily practice to promote quality and safety outcomes
Demonstrates critical thinking and clinical skills to identify and implement nursing interventions and evaluate results for complex, evolving patient conditions within a stepdown setting
Ability to critically handle unexpected challenges and create solutions with a patient-centered approach
Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and consistently demonstrate empathy and kindness to all staff and patients
Must have excellent skills to communicate and influence effectively with all disciplines of staff, including technologists, physicians, advanced practice providers, and patients, both verbally and in writing
Nice to have
BSN or MSN
Professional Nursing Certification, preferably PCCN or CCRN
Two (2+) or more years of Progressive Care or Intermediate Care RN experience
Experience working with vulnerable patient populations
