Job Description:

UC San Diego Health has held its Magnet status since 2011. Total patient care for the Emergency Department Inpatient population (admitted patients in the emergency room) involves four levels of care: ICU, IMU, Telemetry, and Med Surg. There is a heavy focus on oncology, surgical oncology, and bone marrow transplant. The RN must be qualified to care for the highest level of care, IMU, and have special training in critical care, oncology concepts, surgery and medicine. While not required, a cover letter is highly recommended when applying to this position.

Job Responsibility:

  • Total patient care for the Emergency Department Inpatient population (admitted patients in the emergency room) involves four levels of care: ICU, IMU, Telemetry, and Med Surg
  • Heavy focus on oncology, surgical oncology, and bone marrow transplant
  • Must be qualified to care for the highest level of care, IMU, and have special training in critical care, oncology concepts, surgery and medicine

Requirements:

  • Must be a graduate from an accredited school of Nursing
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the State of California
  • BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date
  • A minimum of two (2) years of recent adult acute care RN experience at the IMU level of care or higher acuity
  • ED experience does not qualify
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple high-acuity patients while maintaining patient safety
  • Must be able to function in a fast-paced team environment, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and consistently demonstrate empathy and kindness to all staff and patients

Nice to have:

  • BSN/MSN
  • Recent ED Inpatient (EDIP) experience as an RN
  • RN experience of oncology patient care, including management of immunocompromised patients or chemotherapy-related complications
