Job Description

Job Responsibility
Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge
The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance
Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care
The Telemetry Unit at East Campus Medical Center provides care for adult medical and surgical patients requiring a higher level of care including cardiac monitoring
Conditions for which patients are typically admitted include cardiac and cardiovascular diseases, respiratory, neurological, renal and metabolic disorders, post general surgery
The intensity of care requires the nursing staff to have specialized training in aspects of critical care
The Telemetry Unit integrates with many of the ancillary/support departments including respiratory, laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, and cardiology to meet patient needs
Medical surgical nurses care for a wide variety of patients and populations, including but not limited to, routine general and orthopedic surgeries as well as varying medical diagnosis
Patients are complex medicine patients, including psychosocial and mental health issues
Requirements
Must be a graduate from an accredited school of Nursing
RN license issued by the State of California
BLS and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get UCSD ART within six (6) months of hire date
Minimum one (1) year of acute care experience at the Medical/Surgical level of care or higher
Demonstrates critical nursing thinking and clinical skills to identify and implement nursing interventions and evaluate results
Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and consistently demonstrate empathy and kindness to all staff and patients
Nice to have
BSN/MSN
Two (2+) or more years of acute care Medical/Surgical RN experience
Telemetry RN experience
Participation in shared governance committees or equivalent
