Job Responsibility

  • Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge
  • The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance
  • Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care
  • The Telemetry Unit at East Campus Medical Center provides care for adult medical and surgical patients requiring a higher level of care including cardiac monitoring
  • Conditions for which patients are typically admitted include cardiac and cardiovascular diseases, respiratory, neurological, renal and metabolic disorders, post general surgery
  • The intensity of care requires the nursing staff to have specialized training in aspects of critical care
  • The Telemetry Unit integrates with many of the ancillary/support departments including respiratory, laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, and cardiology to meet patient needs
  • Medical surgical nurses care for a wide variety of patients and populations, including but not limited to, routine general and orthopedic surgeries as well as varying medical diagnosis
  • Patients are complex medicine patients, including psychosocial and mental health issues

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate from an accredited school of Nursing
  • RN license issued by the State of California
  • BLS and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get UCSD ART within six (6) months of hire date
  • Minimum one (1) year of acute care experience at the Medical/Surgical level of care or higher
  • Demonstrates critical nursing thinking and clinical skills to identify and implement nursing interventions and evaluate results
  • Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and consistently demonstrate empathy and kindness to all staff and patients

  • BSN/MSN
  • Two (2+) or more years of acute care Medical/Surgical RN experience
  • Telemetry RN experience
  • Participation in shared governance committees or equivalent
