Job Description

Registered Nurse - CVICU at Tucson Medical Center. This is a 12 bed Cardiac Intensive Critical Care. TMC has the busiest heart program in southern Arizona that recovers generally 2-4 open hearts five days per week (CABG, AVR, MVR, TVR, TAVR). Our patient population consists of open hearts, TAVR’s, thoracotomies, MI's, IABP, Impella, CRRT, swans, sepsis, post codes, unstable heart blocks, unstable cardiac patients, post pacemakers, post lead extractions, heart failure, patients requiring vasopressors, intubated patients, vascular surgeries and EKOS. All staff is CPR and ACLS certified. Other certifications include FCCS, CCRN, CSC and CMC.

Job Responsibility

  • Coordinates patient care planning with other disciplines
  • Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists
  • Writes or obtains initial nursing histories, assesses patients' conditions, develops individual care plans
  • Receives and reviews preceding shift reports, makes rounds, notes patients' condition
  • Notifies appropriate physician regarding unusual events
  • Works with interdisciplinary team, implements patient instructional needs
  • Evaluates outcomes of patient care, adjusts nursing care processes
  • Identifies and resolves workplace health and safety issues
  • Provides direct patient care using aseptic techniques
  • May manage IV lines, ensure sterile techniques, oversee patient movement
  • May perform administration of pharmacological vasodilator medications
  • Complies with policies, procedures, regulations, standards
  • Orients, instructs, educates assigned personnel
  • Adheres to TMCH values
  • Adheres to organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies and standards
  • Performs related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • One year of nursing experience in an acute care setting preferred
  • Current RN licensure permitting work in the State of Arizona
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Additional certification may be required per department
  • Knowledge of direct patient care and critical care procedures and techniques
  • Knowledge of exam indicators, contraindications, and patient preparation
  • Skill in communicating clearly and concisely
  • Skill in reading 12-lead EKG
  • Skill in assigned disciplines such as EP
  • Ability to read and interpret documents
  • Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to listen and interpret others' communication
  • Ability to speak and communicate effectively
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret instructions and deal with variables
