Registered Nurse – Day Surgery/PACU

Promotion of health and the assessment of, the provision of care of, and the treatment of health conditions by supportive, preventative, therapeutic, measures to adults and children during phase I and II recovery within the perianesthesia setting in Day Surgery and PACU

• Ontario College of Nurses registration or eligibility
• Minimum 2 years PACU and acute care nursing experience within the past 5 years
• Broad surgical experience required in all subspecialties
• Successful completion of Post Anaesthetic Course within the last 3 years
• Physical Assessment Course or equivalent
• Coronary Care Certificate I or equivalent
• Current certification in: BCLS
• Venipucture to start an IV
• IV meds below the drip chamber
• PCA
• Epidural analgesia
• Demonstrated computer skills in MS Outlook and Cerner applications (Powerchart and Surginet) or equivalent
• Willingness to cross train and be scheduled in PACU
• Excellent assessment skills
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with patients, families and other healthcare professionals
• Excellent leadership, problem-solving, decision-making and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development and continuing education
• Self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision
• Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records

• Baccalaureate degree in nursing
• ACLS
• Care of CVP, endotracheal tubes/ventilated extubation of an endotracheal tube
