Job Description:

This position is responsible for efficiently coordinating the administration of area field service offices and organizing campaigns within an assigned region. Facilitates operational requests requiring AFSCME assistance or approval and ensures the compliance of requisite policies and procedures affecting all employees assigned to a region.

Job Responsibility:

  • Discuss new or current field projects with Regional Director and execute specific instructions
  • Convey project determinations to respective area directors
  • Confirm project responsibilities by identifying project phases and elements
  • Monitor progress of projects, coordinate activities, and resolve problems
  • Prepare project status reports
  • Assemble planning and financial control data
  • Complete operational requirements by scheduling, assigning, and following up on work results
  • Maintain project database
  • Coordinate with various departments to obtain resource people from Headquarters
  • Investigate officer suspensions and make recommendations for resolution
  • Serve as the major communications link within the assigned region
  • Respond to member and affiliate inquiries
  • Travel to assist and/or evaluate projects or potential projects
  • Attend special conferences and conventions
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in labor studies or labor relations
  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience working for a labor/union
  • Three years with AFSCME with knowledge of union operations and labor relations
  • Extensive experience in the field working with the development of union organizations
  • Experience with organizing, research, servicing members, and education
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with employees, department heads, officials and the general public
  • Computer software knowledge to utilize a database and produce requisite reports
  • Ability to organize and coordinate multiple projects and ensure completion of requisite milestones within established deadlines
  • A valid driver’s license
