We’re Hiring: Refuge Support Worker (Evenings & Sleeping Nights). Are you calm under pressure, compassionate, and committed to women’s safety? We’re looking for a Refuge Support Worker to provide overnight security, safeguarding and wellbeing support for women and children in refuge accommodation. You will often be the sole responsible member of staff on site overnight, so you’ll need confidence in decision-making, risk awareness, excellent recording skills, and a trauma-informed approach. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who wants a meaningful role in domestic abuse services, refuge support, women’s safety, and safeguarding-especially across evenings and sleep-in nights. Job Responsibility:
Provide emotional and practical support to residents during evenings
Welcome and safely admit new residents out of hours
Respond to the domestic abuse helpline, including overnight calls
De-escalate incidents using trauma-informed approaches
Sleep on site and respond to emergencies, safeguarding concerns and incidents
Contact emergency services and on-call managers when required
Complete accurate records and detailed morning handovers
Requirements:
Experience supporting vulnerable people or working in a safeguarding environment
Confidence working alone overnight and responding to emergencies
Strong communication, de-escalation and record-keeping skills
Understanding of confidentiality, risk and safeguarding
Experience in domestic abuse, refuge or housing services
First Aid or safeguarding training
