Join Lucideon as a Refractories Consultant! The Refractories Consultant will provide deep technical expertise, drive innovation, and ensure that our new National Refractory Testing Centre meets the evolving needs of the market. You will act as a subject‑matter expert, support clients through consultancy and technical leadership, and help guide the future direction of our refractory and harsh‑environment materials work.
Job Responsibility:
Shape the strategic direction of Lucideon’s refractory and harsh‑environment materials capability, acting as an international thought leader through conferences, publications, and client engagement
Ensure the National Refractory Testing Centre aligns with UK industry needs and decarbonisation goals
Support the development and operational delivery of the UKRI‑funded Refractory Testing Centre
Contribute to the management and use of ultra‑high‑temperature and controlled‑atmosphere facilities at the AMRICC Centre
Lead and deliver complex client projects ranging from short‑term studies to large multi‑month programmes
Provide technical consultancy, materials optioneering, literature reviews, and hands‑on development work
Advise on equipment, processes, best practices and contribute to technical documentation
Work with commercial colleagues to scope, design and cost programmes of work
Deliver technical presentations and occasional training to clients and peers
Mentor and support scientists to build strong technical capability within the team
Engage with clients, partners and stakeholders across the UK (office‑based with regular UK travel)
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in Materials Science/Engineering or a related discipline
a postgraduate qualification is advantageous
Strong technical understanding of refractories, their applications and associated processes
Practical, hands‑on experience within the refractory sector
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrable ability to plan, lead and deliver large technical projects
Highly motivated, collaborative and capable of managing high‑pressure technical decisions
Ideally eligible for UK security clearance
