Refractories Consultant

• Shape the strategic direction of Lucideon’s refractory and harsh‑environment materials capability, acting as an international thought leader through conferences, publications, and client engagement
• Ensure the National Refractory Testing Centre aligns with UK industry needs and decarbonisation goals
• Support the development and operational delivery of the UKRI‑funded Refractory Testing Centre
• Contribute to the management and use of ultra‑high‑temperature and controlled‑atmosphere facilities at the AMRICC Centre
• Lead and deliver complex client projects ranging from short‑term studies to large multi‑month programmes
• Provide technical consultancy, materials optioneering, literature reviews, and hands‑on development work
• Advise on equipment, processes, best practices and contribute to technical documentation
• Work with commercial colleagues to scope, design and cost programmes of work
• Deliver technical presentations and occasional training to clients and peers
• Mentor and support scientists to build strong technical capability within the team
• Engage with clients, partners and stakeholders across the UK (office‑based with regular UK travel)

• Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in Materials Science/Engineering or a related discipline
• Strong technical understanding of refractories, their applications and associated processes
• Practical, hands‑on experience within the refractory sector
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrable ability to plan, lead and deliver large technical projects
• Highly motivated, collaborative and capable of managing high‑pressure technical decisions
• Ideally eligible for UK security clearance

A postgraduate qualification is advantageous
