Are you a results-oriented Chemical Engineer or Chemist ready to take on a challenging, hands-on role in a critical production environment? We are seeking a dedicated Process Engineer (Chemical Refining) to join our team in Markham in this newly created position. You will be instrumental in managing and improving our core refining processes, ensuring operational excellence, and playing a key part in the commissioning of new equipment. This is your chance to manage the complete life cycle of our chemical refining processes and drive meaningful improvements from day one.
Job Responsibility:
Manage the metal balance for all refining processes
Manage process improvement projects for refining and sweeps processing
Provide support in processing different types of refining material and run process trials
Responsible for troubleshooting operational issues and providing effective solutions for maintenance or outside contractors
Maintain a complete understanding of all processes and equipment at Sweeps, Melting Furnaces, Au refining, Waste Water Treatment, and Assay methods
Manage Quotes/CAPEX and commissioning of new process equipment
Initiate internal or external investigations based on customer complaints and provide prompt feedback to customer service
Cover key operational roles in the Refining departments (e.g., Team Lead at 951, Assayer, Chemical Operator) as needed
Participate in all Process Risk Assessments and HAZOP (Hazards and Operability Study)
Ensure all equipment is operated in accordance with external certificates, regulations, and guidelines
Follow all EHS, IMS, and other company rules, including wearing all required PPE and ensuring your reports do the same
Requirements:
Bachelor of Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
3-4 years of experience in chemical manufacturing
Strong mechanical skills and excellent analytical skills
Understanding of pumps
Understanding of WHMIS, MSDS, etc.
Good computer skills
Good communication skills (verbal and written), with the ability to provide regular reporting
Effective both when working independently and as part of a team
Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision once an assignment is fully understood
Strong organizational skills, results-oriented, and focused on deadlines with excellent attention to detail
Willingness to learn and ability to multitask
Ability to work safely in a hot environment
Comfortable working on a shop floor production/processing environment is key
