Job Description

As a Recycling Assistant at FCC Environment, you will provide a high standard of customer service to the public by actively encouraging reuse and recycling, as well as assisting the public with their waste disposal. You will be expected to operate the Recycling Centre safely and efficiently, in line with company procedures and policies, and support the Recycling Team Leader in delivering a safe and efficient service.

Job Responsibility

  • Delivering excellent customer service and encouraging the public to reuse and recycle
  • Operating the Recycling Centre in accordance with company procedures, Environmental Permit, and contract requirements
  • Promoting the principles of reuse and maximising recycling levels through identification, interception, and education
  • Ensuring all health and safety, site management, and operational procedures are followed
  • Recording all movements of reuse, recyclables, and waste accurately
  • Monitoring container usage and reporting to the Recycling Team Leader
  • Wearing issued uniforms and PPE correctly at all times
  • Assisting in the identification of unlawful waste deposits
  • Any other reasonable request to meet operational needs

Requirements

  • Experience in a customer-facing setting is desirable, but not essential
  • Experience at a Recycling Centre or in a waste/recycling environment is desirable, but not essential
  • No previous knowledge required, but a keen interest in improving recycling rates and diverting valuable items to reuse is important
  • Ability to approach the public and offer assistance
  • Courteous, committed to high levels of customer service, and able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Honest, hardworking, self-motivated, and a good timekeeper
  • Willingness to work weekends and Bank Holidays (sites are open 7 days a week, except Christmas Day, Boxing Day & New Year's Day)
  • Flexibility to work at any Mid & East Kent Recycling Centre as required
