This position provides direct recreation therapy services to patients in a psychiatric hospital setting through both group and individual interventions. The Recreation Therapist conducts recreation therapy assessments to develop treatment programming tailored to the interests and needs of each person served. As part of a multidisciplinary treatment team, this role develops and implements therapeutic interventions guided by evidence-based practices and treatment models that are meaningful and relevant to those receiving services.
Job Responsibility:
Completes Recreation Therapy Assessments to develop treatment programming relevant to the interests and needs of the person served
Works as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team
Develops and conducts therapeutic interventions, driven by evidence-based practice and treatment models, which are meaningful and relevant to persons served
Documents information relevant to persons served
Maintains therapeutic facilities and troubleshoots difficulties as they arise
Follows ATRA Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree (typically in Recreation Therapy)
0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in recreational therapy) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Recreational Activities Specialist
OR 4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in recreational therapy) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Recreational Activities Specialist
Physical ability to lift, twist, bend, pull, and push up to 50 lbs.

Nice to have:
One or more years of experience working with serious, persistent mentally ill patients
Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or a closely related field
Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists (CTRS) by NCTRC
