Job Description:

We’re hiring a Recovery Manager to build and scale a modern data-driven Recovery function. This is not a traditional collections role. This is a high-impact role that sits at the intersection of credit, recovery, legal and product execution. We are looking for a strategic leader who can design recovery systems, build AI-enabled workflows, define performance guardrails and deploy humans only where it adds incremental value. You will own the end-to-end recovery strategy from early-stage delinquency through charge-off optimization across a global portfolio. This is a highly cross-functional role and you will be partnering closely with Underwriting, Risk, R&D & Legal to design a recovery engine that aligns with Shopify’s mission to make commerce better for everyone.

Job Responsibility:

  • Own the end-to-end recovery strategy across all delinquency stages
  • Design automation-first workflows, leveraging decision engines, AI, and segmentation to route humans only where they add incremental value
  • Build and track performance metrics, including roll rates, cure rates, recovery ROI, and vintage-level recovery performance & use findings to provide feedback loop to underwriting
  • Develop dynamic treatment strategies using merchant behavior, risk signals, and exposure to create differentiated recovery paths
  • Lead and scale a high-performing team, setting clear KPIs, coaching for analytical rigour, and driving a culture of accountability and ownership
  • Partner cross-functionally with Underwriting, Risk, Legal and R&D to align recovery strategy with risk appetite, tooling, and regulatory requirements

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of experience in recovery strategy within fintech, digital lending, unsecured lending, or merchant finance
  • Strong analytical capability with deep familiarity in recovery metrics (roll rates, cure rates, NPV of recoveries, loss curves)
  • Proven experience building and optimizing automated recovery workflows in high-volume lending environments
  • Strong technical fluency, comfortable working with data, using AI, and translating business strategy into system logic
  • Demonstrated experience setting KPIs, managing performance, and motivating operational teams
  • Ability to balance financial outcomes with merchant experience and brand protection

Nice to have:

  • Experience in revenue-based lending, merchant cash advances, or daily repayment loan structures
  • Direct experience implementing AI/ML models for cure prediction, prioritization, or next-best-action strategies
  • Experience building a recovery function from scratch in a scaling fintech
  • Global recovery experience across multiple regulatory environments
