We are looking for a customer-focused individual to support front-desk operations and provide administrative assistance for financial aid services in a Contract position based in San Luis Obispo, California. This role is ideal for someone who communicates clearly, stays organized in a fast-paced academic setting, and can assist visitors effectively. The position offers an opportunity to contribute to daily office operations while helping maintain efficient support for financial aid-related activities over a 3-4 month assignment.
Job Responsibility
Greet visitors while creating a welcoming front-office experience
Manage a multi-line phone system, direct incoming calls appropriately, and respond to general inquiries with accuracy and courtesy
Provide administrative support for financial aid operations, including document handling, data entry, and record maintenance
Use Ellucian Banner, Outlook, Teams, and Excel to update information, coordinate communication, and track routine office activities
Assist with scheduling, message distribution, and follow-up tasks to help keep daily workflows organized and on time
Support students with basic financial aid questions and route more complex issues to the appropriate team members
Help maintain orderly office procedures during staff coverage gaps and periods of increased service demand
Contribute to evening coverage when needed based on department scheduling requirements
Requirements
At least 1 year of relevant experience in reception, administrative support, customer service, or a related office environment
Previous experience in higher education is preferred, especially in student services or financial aid support settings
Working knowledge of Ellucian Banner is strongly preferred
Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Teams, and Excel for routine office and communication tasks
Ability to handle inbound calls and manage a multi-line phone system with professionalism and efficiency
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to assist a diverse student population in a courteous and service-oriented manner
Completion of at least one year of college-level coursework is preferred
Spanish language skills are a strong plus
