We are looking for a real estate transactional attorney to join our team in Oakland, California. This role is ideal for a lawyer with several years of experience advising nonprofit organizations, private entities, and public agencies on property-related matters tied to affordable housing and community development. The position offers the opportunity to manage substantial portions of complex transactions while working in a collaborative, high-performing legal environment.
Job Responsibility
Advise clients on real estate transactions involving affordable housing, community development, and economic development initiatives
Draft, review, and negotiate purchase agreements, financing documents, operating agreements, and other transaction-related contracts
Lead key components of deal structuring, due diligence, and closing processes for acquisitions, dispositions, and development projects
Counsel nonprofit organizations, for-profit entities, and public agencies on ownership structures, tax considerations, and regulatory obligations
Support matters involving government funding programs, subsidies, and compliance requirements connected to housing and development projects
Provide legal guidance on rental housing operations and affordable housing program rules throughout the transaction lifecycle
Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to move transactions forward efficiently and resolve legal issues as they arise
Requirements
Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California
At least 3 years of legal experience focused on real estate transactional work
Demonstrated background representing nonprofit organizations, private companies, or public agencies in property-related matters
Working knowledge of affordable housing, community development, or economic development transactions
Experience handling real estate acquisitions, dispositions, financing arrangements, and closing documentation
Ability to manage substantial portions of complex transactions with a high degree of independence
Strong drafting, negotiation, analytical, and client advisory skills
