Job Description

Optegra has an exciting opportunity for a Rapid Response Healthcare Technician to join our highly skilled and dedicated regional clinical team. This is a full-time, permanent position supporting three hospitals across the region: Bradford, Bowcliffe Hall and York. The role requires a high level of flexibility and responsiveness, with travel required at a very short notice, either the evening before or on the morning of your shift. As part of the Rapid Response Team, you will not be allocated to a fixed rota. Instead, you will provide vital support across the region, helping teams manage staffing shortages and maintain exceptional patient care standards where support is needed most.

Job Responsibility

  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care throughout their visit to Optegra
  • Perform diagnostic testing on patients, including Biometry, OCT, A-Scan, Visual fields, Pentacam, VA, IOP, and Topography
  • Support patients on surgery days, providing pre- and post-operative care and ensuring effective communication
  • Demonstrate empathy and sensitivity when addressing patients’ and their relatives’ concerns, ensuring a person centred approach
  • Provide basic health promotion advice related to ophthalmic surgery
  • Assist in the operating theatre, supporting the entire patient pathway
  • To support the control of cross-infection by adhering to the Hospital's Uniform Policy, maintaining a clean working environment, and following decontamination and sterilization procedures in accordance with the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) policy

Requirements

  • NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent
  • Experience of working in a healthcare environment or ophthalmic sector
  • Basic Life Support competent
  • Highly organised, with clear forward planning and ability to flex according to patients needs
  • Attention to details and ability to work under pressure

  • Provide direct patient care under the guidelines and protocols provided by the UNMH Rapid Response Medical Director
  • Identify patients who are in need or will benefit from higher level of care and help implement that care to reduce mortality in the hospital
  • Operate within the scope of practice as defined by the New Mexico Bureau of Emergency Medical Services and any UNMH approved Rapid Response special skills
  • Work in conjunction with all UNMH staff to assist with inpatient, outpatient, visitor and employee care
  • Help and facilitate transfer of patients to or from UNMH to any facility necessary for patient care and allowed by regulatory bodies
  • Function as a patient advocate
  • Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures
  • TEAM RESPONSE - Work in conjunction with Rapid Response Paramedics to respond with multiple teams across the hospital complex
  • provide essential rapid communication and act as a patient care advocate/ liaison between multiple departments to decrease patient mortality and improve patient outcomes
