Located about 40 miles north of Fort Wayne on the shores of Blackman Lake, Camp Potawotami has over 210 acres of woodlands, meadows, wetlands, and hiking trails.
Job Responsibility:
Provide supervision and leadership to camp and all activities at the Ranch and Trail Rides
Plan, organize, and facilitate ranch staff training for safety, facilitation, and equine care
Evaluate and provide riding instruction to campers
Facilitate Trail Rides on designated trails on camp
Supervise and direct the camp horsemanship program by effectively managing the herd and maintaining all equestrian equipment
Perform daily checks for safety, cleanliness, and good repair
Report any health or behavior concerns of the horses to the Program Director
Immediately report falls from a horse, bites from a horse, or horse stepping on people’s feet, camper and staff, to the Program Director and log report
Maintain health and behavior records for each horse
Makes recommendations for horse lease selection in the following year
Assist with camp operations related to prep, evening programming, daily and weekly cleaning
Supervise, Evaluate, and Coach Wrangler/Ranch Staff
Requirements:
Must be at least 20 years of age
Must have a high school diploma or the equivalent
Must have experience working with youth in a camp or outdoor setting
Excellent communication, supervisory, and organizational skills
Excellent human relations skills and enthusiasm
Basic math skills and demonstrated recordkeeping proficiency
An elevated level of organization, flexibility, and ability to handle difficult situations effectively
Valid driver’s license preferred
Successfully complete within 30 days of hire: CPR/First Aid/O2 Certification, Bloodborne Pathogen training, Child Abuse Prevention training, and all other required training as specified by your supervisor
Must possess knowledge of Western riding instruction, horse care, and stable management
Experience in a summer camp equestrian program or camp equestrian training is preferred
Current Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA) certification or willingness to attain certification prior to camp is required
Nice to have:
Valid driver’s license
Experience in a summer camp equestrian program or camp equestrian training
