Job Description

We are seeking a Planner to support the successful delivery of major rail and infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and monitoring project programmes across complex rail works, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with contractual and operational requirements. This role is ideal for a planner with strong rail sector experience and a solid understanding of construction sequencing, possession planning, and project controls within live operational railway environments.

Job Responsibility

  • Develop and maintain detailed project programmes for rail and infrastructure projects
  • Produce baseline schedules, progress updates, recovery programmes, and look-ahead plans
  • Monitor project progress and identify risks, delays, and programme impacts
  • Carry out critical path analysis and recommend mitigation and recovery actions
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, commercial teams, and site delivery teams
  • Support planning activities for possessions, access constraints, and operational railway requirements
  • Prepare and present programme reports for internal and client stakeholders
  • Ensure programmes align with project milestones, contract requirements, and delivery strategies
  • Support change management and assess programme impacts associated with variations and compensation events
  • Assist with tender planning and pre-construction scheduling activities
  • Participate in project progress meetings and planning workshops

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Planner within the rail or infrastructure sector
  • Experience working on rail construction, civil engineering, signalling, track, station, or multidisciplinary rail projects
  • Strong proficiency in planning software such as Primavera P6 and/or ASTA Powerproject
  • Good understanding of rail project delivery, possession planning, and operational constraints
  • Experience working within live rail environments
  • Strong understanding of project controls and programme management principles
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to analyse complex project data and produce clear reporting outputs
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and reporting skills
