Requirements

MBBS or equivalent qualification
Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
On (or within 6 months of entry to) the GMC Specialist Register in Clinical Radiology
Minimum 1 year NHS experience
Subspecialty expertise in: Vascular Interventional Radiology
Non-vascular Interventional Radiology
Competence in: CT / MRI imaging relevant to IR
Image-guided procedures
Higher degree (MD / PhD or equivalent)
Experience in: Teaching and training

Job Responsibility

Perform a full range of interventional radiology procedures, including: Vascular and endovascular interventions
Embolisation procedures (e.g., uterine, prostate, varicocele)
Image-guided biopsies and drainages
Biliary and urological interventions
Contribute to dialysis access and vascular access services
Support trauma and emergency interventional radiology services
Participate in a 1:5 out-of-hours IR rota
Work collaboratively with: Vascular surgeons, Renal teams, Oncology and general surgical specialties
Participate in: MDT meetings, Morbidity & Mortality reviews, Service improvement initiatives
Contribute to the strategic development of interventional radiology services

Contribute to the Diagnostic Radiology Consultant on-call rota (1:10 or 1:16)
Support and supervise Speciality Registrars and junior doctors
Actively participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, including Radiology Academy sessions
Contribute to clinical governance, audit, risk management and quality improvement initiatives
Engage in research activity where appropriate and support evidence-based practice
Provide reciprocal consultant cover during periods of leave
Participate fully in annual appraisal, revalidation and CPD requirements

Ensures patient is ready for scan i.e. confirms appropriate gauge IV needle, appropriate type/dose of contrast and allergy status
Accurately and thoroughly completes hospital/department specific forms per protocol i.e. completes exams in Radnet, incident reports/extravasation forms, patient contrast information forms, side/site forms and documents exam information in CT log
Performs protocol management by evaluating and determining area of interest and type of scan to be performed on patient, consults physician as necessary
