Job Description:

The Radiation Oncologist is responsible for diagnosing and treating patients with cancer as well as overseeing all function which fall under the scope of the care for the Radiation Oncology department. This includes clinical and administrative oversight.

Job Responsibility:

  • Conducts patient evaluations
  • Directs simulations, provides radiation prescriptions, and associated planning activities
  • Manages the patient treatment and provides treatment options
  • Performs follow up and post care treatment
  • Provides emergency care when needed
  • Adheres to published patient care guidelines from NCCN, ACR, ACRO and other authoritative agencies as appropriate
  • Works closely with physics and dosimetry staff to determine patient care and treatment
  • Monitors treatment plan carried out by the radiation therapists
  • Reads and interprets radiographs and all types of radiological methods including MRI, CT, Ultrasound, Sonographs, and Angiographs etc.
  • Develops treatment plans based on the nature of the patient's cancer
  • Provides documentation in compliance with Medicare guidelines
  • Consults with other patient care services
  • Participates in local tumor board, chart rounds, quality assurance activities and other committees as necessary
  • Provides after hours care when necessary, including on-call responsibilities
  • Provides coverage for fellow Central Care physicians when necessary
  • Provides coverage of Oral Medication Center in the absence of the physician in charge

Requirements:

  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) Degree or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.)
  • Medical license required
  • BLS certification
  • Full state licensure required
  • Board certified in Radiation Oncology required
  • Must be eligible for participation in Medicare, Medicaid and other payer networks
  • Knowledge of FDA Health Regulations
  • Must be eligible for hospital privileges at designated facilities
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Mathematical skills and ability to perform calculations
