We are looking for an Area Controller to join the Supply team based in the North area of the Wessex region. As Area Controller, you will supervise the Supply Repair and Maintenance (R&M) teams to operate safely and securely while also collating asset information. You will also be responsible for managing a budget and controlling costs within the team, which provides the primary delivery of repairs, maintenance and new installations to the water supply distribution networks.
Job Responsibility:
promoting and driving Health and Safety and other toolbox talk messages to the team to ensure the safe execution of the R&M activities
ensuring the team performs its duties in accordance with company policies and our core values
managing staff to achieve the best possible performance and to meet company targets within budget
reviewing job cards and carrying out on-site supervision to monitor performance to ensure that the gangs meet maximum potential and complete work to the required standard to minimise the need for remedial works
supervising staff and completing annual performance appraisals
ensuring that training requirements are carried out, and to ensure that qualifications do not expire, and teams are up to date with the latest training
developing staff at all levels to build an experienced team to cover annual leave, sickness and progression
acting as a key member of the Customer and Water Network Supply Repair and Maintenance Management team
maintaining excellent relations with customers whilst minimising the cost of operations, maximising productivity, and dealing directly with customer incidents
ensuring all field data collection is accurate and recorded in corporate systems
ensuring emergency plans are implemented through the adequate provision of stores, equipment and organisation of labour resources
participating in the standby rota
managing risk and maximising efficiency whilst reducing abortive work and defects, working closely with the schedulers
conducting internal environmental and safety audits
deputising for the Supply Construction Manager
Requirements:
Relevant Repair and Maintenance experience
SMSTSor SSSTS
NRSWA section S1 monitoring signing, lighting and guarding
a full UK driving licence
experience of CDM, temporary works
experience with Excel, Word, and Outlook
the ability to develop ideas to improve performance and influence senior managers in decision-making
the ability to plan and organise oneself and others
leadership skills and the ability to direct, coach and build a team
a passion for customer service and quality
the ability to manage contractors
the ability to deal with the performance of direct reports
effective teamwork skills
