Opportunity to work in the cutting edge of R&D in the biopharmaceutical industry at a globally leading CDMO.

Job Responsibility:

  • Contribute to the delivery of new mammalian expression hosts and vector systems for the expression of complex therapeutic proteins
  • Engineer mammalian cell lines (e.g. Stable cell line generation, targeted integration and gene editing - e.g. CRISPR-based systems)
  • Generate mammalian expression vectors using state of the art assembly techniques
  • Phenotypic characterisation of edited cell lines with relevant assays (e.g. NGS, ddPCR, qPCR and flow cytometry) and cell culture techniques (e.g., shake flask/ bioreactor)
  • Collate, analyse, evaluate and sign-off data to produce good quality information and traceable records under the direction of the project lead
  • Presentation of results in written and oral reports
  • Work closely with other groups within R&D to deliver solutions or improvements in recombinant protein expression (in particular with R&D Process Development & Protein Analytics)
  • Actively keep abreast of relevant academic literature (e.g., in the field of cell engineering and expression technologies)
  • Contribute ideas and opinions to scientific discussions to aid the development of new technologies
  • Working both individually and as a team player - working with a high degree of flexibility
  • Execute studies in support of technology or process development projects
  • Supports development of study plans
  • Maintains accurate and timely records to appropriate quality standards for self and team, prepares high quality data summaries

Requirements:

  • BSc/MSc Degree in Life Sciences / Science/ Molecular Biology
  • Practical experience within in an industrial/academic setting is desirable
  • Good technical background in molecular biology (Electrophoresis, PCR, vector construction) and cell culture (preferably mammalian cells) with the aim of developing or manipulating mammalian expression systems
  • Clear demonstration of strong technical skills, scientific execution and data analysis
  • A proactive attitude to working and solving challenging problems
  • Good working knowledge of statistics and expertise in design of experiments
  • Experience of cell line engineering, ideally with CRISPR-based systems would be an advantage and highly desirable
  • Good understanding of synthetic biology technologies would be desirable
