Job Description

We are seeking a R&D S&E, Systems Engineering: On any given day you will perform the following: Plan and conduct user research to improve usability and efficiency of web and desktop applications; Apply user-centered design methodology to develop usable software products; Create wireframes and prototypes to communicate design ideas; Synthesize research findings into actionable insights and recommendations that stakeholders and peers can act upon; Collaborate with stakeholders, researchers, designers and developers to create high quality software products; Serve as an advocate for end users; Leverage current user experience research to create artifacts that can be utilized and shared throughout Advanced Simulation & Computing (ASC) Integrated Codes (IC) and beyond, e.g., experience maps, personas, user profiles, affinity diagrams; Interact with the ASC and ND usability landscape and establish the vision and strategy for addressing the evolving usability; Establish exceptionally positive relationships within the ASC Program and with ND organizations to ensure robust visibility into to use of the ASC codes; Create a user-data driven library of UI templates and reusable assets that can be used by ASC-IC development teams and beyond; Develop a set of design standards for ASC-IC products to help increase usability and learnability.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance

Nice to have

  • Graduate degree in User Experience Research, human factors, or computer science or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation)
  • Experience working with Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) laboratories and plants including Pantex, Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC), Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), Los Alamos National Laboratory, and Kansas City National Security Campus/New Mexico Operations (KCNSC/NMO)
  • Experience working on engineering design, qualification, production, or related modeling/simulation projects
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience with a wide variety of usability methods, including observational studies, user interviews, surveys, heuristic evaluations, usability testing, etc.
  • Design experience with high fidelity wireframe/mockup creation, developing a design system, and interaction design
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience working with development teams using agile methodologies
  • Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative data and derive meaningful insights
  • Familiarity with quantifiable data analytics and representing data visually
