Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Quarry Manager to oversee all aspects of our silica sand quarry operations. This role requires a leader who can manage daily production, ensure compliance with health & safety standards, and optimise plant and machinery performance. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in quarry operations and hands-on experience with heavy plant equipment.

Job Responsibility

  • Manage day-to-day quarry operations, ensuring safe and efficient production
  • Oversee the extraction, processing and loading of silica sand in line with production targets
  • Lead, supervise and develop a team of quarry operatives, plant operators and contractors
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, including Health & Safety, Environmental and Planning regulations
  • Operate and oversee the maintenance of fixed and mobile plant machinery (e.g. crushers, screeners, excavators, dumpers)
  • Conduct risk assessments, inspections and audits
  • maintain safety documentation
  • Monitor and report on production metrics, operational costs and KPIs
  • Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to ensure machinery uptime and performance
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies, suppliers and senior management as required
  • Maintain the site’s Quarry Development Plan and ensure alignment with company strategy

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a management role within quarrying, mining, or a related extractive industry
  • Good working knowledge of plant machinery and equipment used in quarry operations
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage teams effectively
  • In-depth understanding of Health & Safety and Environmental legislation (e.g. Quarry Regs, PUWER, LOLER)
  • Relevant vocational qualifications such as: QCF Level 6/7 in Quarry Management or equivalent
  • SHE NVQ (or IOSH/NEBOSH certification)
  • Proficient in report writing, planning, and using digital systems for quarry management
  • Proficient in typing on a keyboard without sounding like you are going to break it

Nice to have

CPCS or NPORS certification for operating quarry plant
