The Amazon Web Services (AWS) Center for Quantum Computing in Pasadena, CA, is looking to hire an Applied Scientist on the Device Team, focused on integration R&D for superconducting quantum processors. You will join a multi-disciplinary team of theoretical and experimental physicists, materials scientists, and hardware and software engineers working at the forefront of quantum computing. You should have deep expertise in the design, fabrication, and characterization of superconducting quantum devices, with a strong understanding of how materials, process integration, and device architecture impact qubit coherence and performance.
Job Responsibility:
Design and execute experiments to assess performance impacts of new fabrication process modules and device design changes
Investigate unexpected results through rigorous analysis and follow-on experiments
Leverage electromagnetic and circuit-level simulations to interpret findings and connect observations to underlying physical mechanisms
Coordinate with production and cross-functional teams on engineering lots, short-loop experiments, and prototyping runs
Requirements:
Experience in patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals
Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
Master's degree or above in engineering, physics, or equivalent
Familiarity with cryogenic systems and low-temperature measurement environments
2+ years of hands-on experience with superconducting quantum devices (resonators, transmons, or related circuits)
Nice to have:
Experience using Unix/Linux
Experience in professional software development
Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams
Experience with flip-chip or 3D integrated superconducting devices
Familiarity with tantalum or other refractory metal-based superconducting circuits
Experience with loss characterization and SPR analysis in CPW or lumped element resonator geometries
Knowledge of Josephson junction engineering including oxidation control, underjunction processing, and junction aging
Experience with cat qubit or bosonic qubit architectures
Track record of driving R&D from concept through hardware demonstration
