An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a major delivery organisation working on high-profile light rail and infrastructure projects in the West Midlands. You will be responsible for administering all commercial aspects across a portfolio of multidisciplinary light rail projects, from early inception through to final account and close-out. Projects are delivered within a collaborative alliance environment and include complex urban infrastructure schemes that support city regeneration and major transport hubs.
Job Responsibility:
Leading, managing, developing, and mentoring commercial teams across multiple projects
Embedding strong commercial awareness and best practice within project teams
Managing contractual matters from inception to final account, ensuring optimal commercial outcomes
Assisting in the preparation of contract documentation including bills of quantities, specifications, and drawings
Supporting risk and opportunity management processes during tender and construction phases
Managing project budgets and ensuring accurate cost allocation within the WBS
Establishing and maintaining robust project lifecycle cost forecasts, reviewed monthly
Driving the accurate recording, notification, pricing, and substantiation of contractual changes
Implementing rigorous cost controls, early warning systems, and delivering accurate monthly financial reporting, including EVM
Supporting procurement activities to ensure safe, timely, cost-effective, and high-quality delivery
Ensuring procurement spend is validated, budgeted, and aligned with delivery requirements
Managing cash flow and ensuring applications for payment are submitted and assessed in line with contractual timescales
Ensuring supply chain payments are made in accordance with agreed terms
Negotiating and agreeing final accounts and resolving contractual disputes within delegated authority
Undertaking site measurement queries and producing monthly CVR reports
Carrying out any other reasonable duties as required
Requirements:
Proven experience working in a commercial or finance function within the engineering or construction sector
Hands-on QS experience with contractors on large civils or infrastructure projects
Working knowledge of finance systems and a range of contract forms
Strong capability in cost management, budget administration, and financial reporting
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
Confident interfacing with project, engineering, finance, and procurement teams
Degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management accredited by RICS or CIOB
Minimum of 2 years' experience as a Quantity Surveyor with a demonstrable track record on major projects
