The role of the QSR Officer works within the Mission and Mission in Action of HammondCare to ensure that, along with the Head of QSR, that HammondCare Health and Hospital Services have a focus on improvement of care, service, quality and patient & team risk and safety. The QSR Officer works closely with the services and with the Head of QSR to ensure that services are aligned with HammondCare’s philosophy of care. The role involves auditing and monitoring compliance, investigating incidents, supporting training on safety protocols, and ensuring adherence to healthcare regulations and accreditation standards. They collaborate with clinical and operational teams to drive continuous improvement and enhance patient outcomes while mitigating potential risks to staff, patients, and the organisation.
Job Responsibility:
Assist the Head of QSR/QSR Manager in investigations, reviews and audits as scheduled or triggered by changes in service delivery or requested by the Head of QSR
Escalate concerns or sentinel events to the Head of QSR
Support services in meeting the requirements of regulatory visits and other external visits and provide support during these audits
Quality improvement and auditing
Risk Management and Mitigation
Support services in understanding the effectiveness of the operations of their services, alignment with the Mission and Mission in Action and the ongoing trends
Monitor and investigate incidents, adverse events, and near misses
Conduct root cause analyses and recommend corrective actions
Support staff in incident reporting and learning from safety events
Promote a culture of patient-centred care and continuous improvement
Ensure compliance with national healthcare regulations and accreditation standards (e.g., NSQHS Standards, ISO, Aged Care Quality Standards)
Prepare and support the organisation through accreditation and external audits
Coordinate quality improvement projects across the organization
Collect, analyse, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to safety, quality, and risk
Conduct audits, assessments, and reviews of clinical and operational processes
Engage with staff, leadership, and external stakeholders to promote best practices
Provide guidance and support on incident management and compliance requirements
Lead and facilitate quality and risk committees and working groups
Communicate key safety, quality, and risk updates to staff at all levels
Requirements:
Commitment to engage and align with HammondCare’s Christian Mission, Motivation and Mission in Action
Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Allied Health, Health Science, or a related field (essential)
Strong knowledge of healthcare quality, safety, and risk management frameworks
Ability to interpret and apply regulatory requirements and accreditation standards
Analytical and problem-solving skills for incident investigation and risk assessment
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Strong project management and organizational skills
Ability to lead training and education programs
A current driver’s license and safe driving record. Willingness to travel between HammondCare’s sites, from time to time
Strong administrative and computer skills including database management and Microsoft Office applications (particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook)
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Demonstrated analytical skills to identify risk and make recommendations for change
Demonstrated empathy towards older people
Nice to have:
Aged or health care experience
Postgraduate qualifications in Quality Management, Risk Management, Occupational Health & Safety, or Healthcare Governance
Knowledge of aged care financial drivers – home care packages, Aged Care Quality Standards and The HammondCare Aged Care Enterprise Agreement 2023
Experience with SUN Systems
Experience with Epicor SLS
Experience with Medicare online claiming systems (PRODA)
