Job Description
Oversee the testing of body preparation stages, including ball milling, density, viscosity, residue analysis, and spray-dried clay moisture content. Ensure structural integrity during pressing/shaping and monitor green-stage dimensions and strength. Strictly monitor glaze preparation (density, application thickness) and kiln firing profiles (temperature distribution, cycle times) to avoid firing defects. Conduct and supervise rigorous visual and physical laboratory testing, including: Thermal shock resistance, Water absorption and porosity, Modulus of Rupture (MOR) / mechanical strength, Acid and alkali chemical resistance. Utilize Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Statistical Quality Control (SQC) methodologies to track yield data and systematically reduce scrap. Investigate manufacturing defects (e.g., pinholes, warping, cracks, glaze crawling) using root-cause analysis tools (5 Whys, Fishbone, DMAIC) and execute immediate Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA). Verify that incoming raw materials (clay types, kaolin, quartz, feldspar, pre-formulated glazes, and metal oxides/stains) meet strict physical and chemical technical specifications before unloading. Partner with procurement to assess vendor capabilities, audit suppliers, and issue non-conformance reports for off-spec raw batches. Maintain and manage a QMS compliant with local and international benchmarks relevant to tableware and ceramics (e.g., ISO 9001, food-safety contact regulations for tableware, and regional standards). Lead internal quality audits, facilitate external certification audits, and ensure airtight batch traceability protocols across the manufacturing floor. Lead the technical investigation of any client product complaints or field returns, coordinating across production teams to implement structural fixes. Manage, train, and set KPIs for QA/QC engineers, laboratory technicians, and shift floor inspectors. Lead waste-reduction and 5S workplace organization initiatives on the production floor to foster a proactive 'Quality at Source' culture.
