The Quality Engineering Lead is responsible for leading the quality engineers who support daily manufacturing operations and plant floor quality performance at Romulus Propulsion Systems. This role provides technical direction, coaching, and day-to-day leadership to ensure strong execution of quality assurance, containment, problem solving, corrective actions, and compliance to GM quality requirements. The successful candidate will work closely with Production, Engineering, Supplier Quality, and plant leadership to resolve quality issues, support BIQ activities, reduce warranty exposure, improve customer satisfaction, and strengthen overall plant quality performance. This role requires strong initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to lead through collaboration in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Job Responsibility
Lead, coach, and develop the quality engineers who support daily manufacturing operations
Drive and support structured problem-solving activities for internal, supplier, and customer quality concerns
Support plant Built-In Quality (BIQ) activities and help maintain compliance to GM quality requirements
Coordinate quality holds, containment, repair, rework, and corrective actions for identified spills and non-conforming material
Support Voice of the Customer (VOC), warranty reduction, and customer concern resolution activities
Partner with Production, Engineering, Supplier Quality, and cross functional teams to address and resolve quality issues
Support APQP, PPAP, change management, controlled shipping, SPPS, cost recovery, PTR, and PRTS activities as required
Validate scrap disposition and ensure proper follow-up on temporary work orders and engineering actions
Communicate emerging issues, quality risks, and countermeasures to leadership in a timely manner
Reinforce disciplined use of quality systems, audits, standardized work, and escalation processes
Develop team capability through coaching, mentoring, and technical support
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, or equivalent experience
3+ years of experience in a manufacturing or quality environment
Prior leadership experience or demonstrated ability to lead and develop others in a plant environment
Strong problem-solving and corrective action capability
Experience with PFMEA, PRTS, SPC, GD&T, and Control Plans
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to collaborate effectively across functions and with external suppliers
Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Ability to work off shift, weekends, and overtime as needed
Nice to have
5+ years of experience in a manufacturing or quality environment
Prior Quality Engineering experience in a plant environment
Knowledge of engine machining and/or assembly manufacturing processes
Familiarity with APQP, PPAP, Red X, Six Sigma, BIQ, and GMS
Demonstrated success coaching team members and driving accountability and results
