Focuses on SMT Line and PCBA Assembly processes: SMT / PCBA Quality Engineers are primarily responsible for ensuring that all printed circuit board assemblies meet Teradyne’s standards for performance, workmanship, and reliability. This includes ownership of the SMT process flow from solder paste printing through reflow, AOI/AXI, and final PCBA assembly and test. Acts as a bridge between manufacturing and design/customer quality: SMT / PCBA QEs act as the quality advocate for the SMT lines and assembled boards. The role ensures consistent process capability, rapid issue containment, and data-driven improvements to achieve world-class First Pass Yield (FPY) and low Defective Parts Per Million (DPPM).
Job Responsibility:
Establish and sustain process controls across SMT operations (printing, placement, reflow, AOI/AXI) and PCBA assembly
Lead root cause analysis and CAPA for defects such as solder bridging, tombstoning, insufficient solder, opens, and component misplacements
Work with Manufacturing Engineering to optimize reflow profiles, stencil design, and pick-and-place parameters
Maintain process documentation, control plans, PFMEA, and MSA for SMT/PCBA lines
Conduct risk hunting, internal product audits, and layered process audits to ensure process compliance and improvement
Collaborate with NPI and Test Engineering teams to ensure DFM/DFT compliance during board design and new product introduction
Manage supplier quality for PCBA-related materials and drive improvements through the 8D methodology
Analyze FPY, DPMO, AOI escape, and test yield data to identify trends and initiate proactive quality improvement plans
Support failure analysis and coordinate investigations with suppliers, field service, and customer quality when needed
Drive process improvement projects targeting zero-defect goals, cost reduction, and enhanced manufacturing robustness
Support across multiple factories in Malaysia, Thailand and US – 15-30% travels
