We are seeking an experienced Quality Assurance Manager to join the Mowi Canada East Team in Harbour Breton, Newfoundland. Reporting to the Processing Manager, the role of the Quality Assurance Manager is to ensure that fish quality, harvest quality, processing quality, and pack quality meets the business quality standards required and comply with all applicable regulations. Also to develop, implement, train and maintain quality control SOPs, and systems. This role also involves the management and resolution of all customer complaints, conducting audits, analyzing data, and recommending improvements to processes
Job Responsibility:
Implement and manage quality control processes during harvest and post harvest
To provide food safety support for the business including HACCP plans
Liaise with Farming and Feed Supplier to sample all farms during production to ensure fish are meeting correct flesh quality and shape standards before first harvest. To highlight/recommend any corrective actions required
To monitor and audit harvest quality and welfare, incl regular review of video records. To highlight/recommend any corrective actions required
To encourage, monitor and audit processing hygiene and quality, incl accurate fish grading. To highlight/recommend any corrective actions required
To encourage, monitor and audit the quality packing of fish into boxes, labelling and stacking. All from a customer’s perspective. To highlight/recommend any corrective actions required
The principle responsibility of this role will be providing written audit, report and corrective action support to processing and farming management
Audit and report on the performance of the Company with respect to the specific requirements of any Quality Management programme in order to monitor and ensure compliance, and provide benchmark against peers
Interpretation of Quality requirements from various inputs (e.g. legal, customer, internal) and developing, setting and agreeing appropriate systems and procedures within the company
Audit of 3rd party suppliers to ensure standards are met
To represent the company and deal with all matters relating to industry quality schemes in order to ensure that the company is represented and maintains its status within the industry
Direction of regular collection and summaries of quality information including sampling programmes, and to provide appropriate management information including accurate Corp reporting
Keeping abreast of industry regulations and standards and ensuring that products and processes comply
All other duties as required
Requirements:
A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree is required, with preference for B2C. Equivalent education and experience may be considered
A minimum of 5 years of experience working in a food processing environment is required
Experience of managing quality systems including HACCP, BAP
Experience in fish farming, and high-risk food production
Experience of dealing with customers
Working knowledge of computer-based information systems
In-depth knowledge of food safety regulations for exporters
Working knowledge of chemistry, physics and microbiology
Must have demonstrable report writing skills and proficient with MS Office
Ability to work variable hours and work independently
Ability to work in cool damp conditions
Travel to remote locations from time to time
Travel out to sea to participate in quality checks during harvest
English language ability
