Are you looking for an exciting role in Children's Social Work? Are you looking for a role that is rewarding? Yes? Randstad are looking for a Social Worker to join Knowsley Council's Children with Disabilities team. They are a Local Authority who have invested in more staff and more teams across a range of service areas in order to support their improvement journey. They support staff well-being and create a good culture within the council to ensure everyone feels welcome and supported within their role.

Job Responsibility:

  • To deliver a high-quality, person-centred social work service to children and young people with a diagnosed disability (from birth to age 18) and their families
  • Involves assessing their needs and working collaboratively with multi-agency partners to provide services and support that promote well-being, social inclusion, and independence
  • Conduct comprehensive statutory assessments of needs for children and young people with learning, physical, or sensory disabilities
  • Complete and contribute to the social care elements of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
  • Develop, implement, and review care plans that focus on outcomes and are tailored to the unique needs of the child and family
  • Provide direct, person-centred social work support, information, and advice to disabled children, their families, and carers
  • Facilitate access to a range of services designed to meet identified needs, such as Direct Payments, community activities, and respite care (short breaks)
  • Work with families to address challenging behaviors and other complex needs
  • Hold a caseload that may include children subject to Child in Need (CIN) plans or Child Protection (CP) plans
  • Respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns and undertake statutory inquiries (e.g., Section 47) when required
  • Identify, manage, and escalate risks to ensure the safety and well-being of vulnerable children
  • Work collaboratively with a wide range of professionals, including health services, schools, voluntary organisations, and adult social care teams
  • Support young people in their transition to adulthood (from age 14 onwards), ensuring they have a seamless pathway to adult services and support that maximises their independence
  • Attend and contribute to various meetings, such as Core Groups, Child Protection Conferences, and reviews, to ensure the best possible outcomes for the child
  • Maintain accurate, high-quality, and up-to-date case records in line with statutory requirements and Council policies
  • Prepare and present statements for Tribunal Court appeals in relation to the social care element of an EHCP, as and when required
  • Ensure all practice is compliant with key legislation, including the Children Act 1989, the Care Act 2014, and the SEND Code of Practice
