An experienced and dedicated Qualified Adult Safeguarding Social Worker is required to join a high-paced, multi-agency environment within Manchester's Adult Social Care services. This role is pivotal in protecting adults with care and support needs from abuse and neglect, empowering them to make decisions, and promoting their overall well-being in line with the Care Act 2014.
Job Responsibility:
Lead and coordinate complex and high-risk safeguarding enquiries under Section 42 of the Care Act 2014, ensuring the adult at risk is central to the process ("Making Safeguarding Personal")
Conduct comprehensive, strengths-based assessments of need, risk, and capacity
Develop and implement robust safety plans that balance risk enablement with the duty to protect
Screen incoming safeguarding referrals, gather and analyse information from various sources (MDTs, Police, Health), and make professional decisions regarding the appropriate pathway for intervention
Expertly apply the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA), including undertaking comprehensive capacity assessments and Best Interest Decisions for adults who lack capacity regarding safeguarding or care matters
Develop, implement, and review personalised care and support plans to meet assessed needs and reduce the likelihood of future harm
Collaborate effectively within the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) or community teams, chairing and attending strategy meetings, and ensuring a co-ordinated, effective multi-agency response
Prepare and present professional evidence and documentation for the Court of Protection where necessary to protect an adult's best interests
Maintain clear, concise, and defensible case records on the electronic system, ensuring compliance with statutory and local policies
Requirements:
A recognised Degree/Diploma in Social Work (or equivalent)
Current and valid registration with Social Work England (SWE)
Significant post-qualifying experience (minimum 2+ years typically required) within an Adult Social Care setting, with a substantial focus on statutory adult safeguarding
Expert working knowledge and practical application of the Care Act 2014, the Mental Capacity Act 2005, and local safeguarding adults procedures
Proven ability to manage a complex and highly pressurised caseload autonomously, demonstrating excellent analytical, communication, and decision-making skills
Ability to travel effectively across the Manchester area to conduct visits, attend meetings, and support enquiries
