You will be successful in this role if you are attentive to detail, methodical in your workflow, and enjoy problem solving. Your primary goal will be performing a variety of quality control duties to assist in the effective and efficient operations of the plant while maintaining a focus on safety. Your day-to-day tasks would include following established procedures to sample and test products. In this role, you will report to the Manager of Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC). You will work with Research & Development (R&D), Product Development, and production operations teams to enhance product quality. The position is full-time and based at the production facility in Burlington, ON. The schedule will be day shift but will require variable schedule for days to swing shift to meet coverage for production shift (day production is 6am-3pm and swing production is 12pm-9pm). Exact hours will vary during high volume season, normally the summer.
Job Responsibility:
Gathering samples from the process and finished good tanks to ensure representative samples are tested
Compiling records, interpreting experimental and analytical results, adding results to the database, issuing COA’s (certificate of analysis), and periodically monitoring Statistical Process Control (SPC) charts
Developing and conducting programs for sampling and analysis to maintain quality standards of raw materials, chemical intermediates, and finished products
Preparing solutions and reagents according to American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), test methods, and formulations
Operating laboratory equipment and apparatus, maintaining them and keeping the areas clean while following the Health and Safety Manual guidelines
Setting up and conducting chemical experiments while maintaining instrument calibration records
Maintaining a detailed understanding of bitumen, asphalt emulsion chemistry, asphalt emulsion production, and various end-use applications
Following the production of new formulations or new processes on site (trials) to support R&D, Technical Sales, and Operations, keeping records to track any variation causes that might occur
Requirements:
2-3 years of quality assurance or quality control (QA/QC) laboratory experience or multiple terms of co-op program experience
Preferred QA/QC experience in an industrial manufacturing setting
WHMIS 2015 or GHS knowledge
A college diploma or B.Sc. in chemistry, chemical engineering, or quality control/assurance is required
Experience in chemical industry, asphalt, or wood composite industry will be considered in lieu of a completed technical degree
A valid driver’s license in good standing is required
