Robert Half is looking for a Purchasing Specialist/Buyer for a manufacturing company in Janesville, WI. We are looking for someone with experience to lead the procurement and supply planning activities. This position works closely with suppliers and internal partners to secure materials and services that keep production running efficiently while balancing cost, quality, and continuity of supply. The ideal candidate brings hands-on purchasing experience, strong analytical judgment, and the ability to build productive vendor relationships across a diverse portfolio of direct and indirect spend.
Job Responsibility
Oversee the purchasing cycle for ingredients, packaging, co-manufactured products, and finished goods obtained from external suppliers
Coordinate demand-related purchasing activities to help maintain material availability and support uninterrupted manufacturing operations
Manage relationships with domestic and international vendors, including communication on pricing, lead times, service expectations, and supply concerns
Evaluate sourcing options and negotiate with suppliers to improve value, reduce risk, and support overall cost-control objectives
Track supplier performance and address service, quality, or delivery issues to strengthen reliability across the supply base
Support procurement needs spanning direct materials, indirect materials, MRO items, and related services for the business
Analyze purchasing data and market information to identify trends, support buying decisions, and improve planning accuracy
Partner with internal stakeholders to align purchasing priorities with operational requirements and customer-focused service goals
Requirements
At least 2 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or buyer-focused roles within a manufacturing or related environment
Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, or related field
Working knowledge of sourcing practices across direct materials, indirect materials, MRO, and supplier-managed categories
Experience negotiating with vendors and maintaining productive supplier relationships in support of business objectives
Ability to assess supplier performance using data related to cost, quality, delivery, and service
Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple purchasing priorities effectively
Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners
Process-oriented mindset with a focus on continuous improvement, operational efficiency, and risk awareness
