Job Description

Pupil Support Worker – SEMH Setting (Secondary). Do you want to be the reason a young person finally feels safe enough to learn? We’re working with a specialist SEMH setting in Portsmouth looking for a Pupil Support Worker to support students in Key Stages 3 & 4 who need something different from mainstream education. This isn’t a standard classroom role. These are students who need consistency, patience and someone firmly in their corner. Progress doesn’t always look like perfect work – sometimes it’s simply showing up, engaging, or trusting an adult for the first time.

Job Responsibility

  • Building strong, trusting relationships with students
  • Supporting pupils in lessons, 1:1 and in small groups
  • Helping students regulate emotions and re-engage with learning
  • Providing calm, consistent support during challenging moments
  • Supporting positive behaviour using trauma-informed approaches
  • Working closely with teachers and wider support staff

Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
  • DBS on the Update Service
  • Up to date safeguarding training

Nice to have

  • Experience in SEMH settings
  • Experience in behaviour support
  • Experience in youth work
  • Experience in care / support work

What we offer

  • Smaller class sizes and more personalised support
  • A strong team culture
  • A setting that values progress over perfection
  • A genuinely rewarding role where you see real change
