Job Description

We are looking for a Tax Accountant to support a growing tax practice with one of our clients in the Knoxville, Tennessee area. This contract-to-permanent position is ideal for a detail-oriented tax specialist who can manage return preparation, advise clients with confidence, and maintain a high standard of accuracy across engagements. The role offers direct interaction with individual and business clients while contributing to compliance, planning, and overall service quality.

Job Responsibility

  • Prepare and examine individual and business tax filings to ensure submissions are complete, accurate, and delivered within required deadlines
  • Advise clients on tax-related questions, filing obligations, and planning considerations to help them make informed financial decisions
  • Conduct meetings with prospective and established clients to collect documentation, clarify tax circumstances, and discuss service needs
  • Research tax matters, identify potential issues, and recommend practical resolutions or planning strategies
  • Monitor adherence to federal, state, and local tax requirements throughout the return process
  • Organize and maintain detailed client files, supporting records, and tax documentation for efficient reference and audit readiness
  • Respond to tax notices and related correspondence by gathering information, preparing responses, and tracking follow-up actions
  • Stay current with changes in tax law and share relevant updates with clients and team members as needed

Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state tax rules, with the ability to apply them accurately in client engagements
  • Strong client-facing communication skills with a detail-focused, service-oriented approach
  • Ability to lead in-person or virtual discussions with clients to review documents and explain tax matters clearly
  • High level of attention to detail and strong organizational skills in managing multiple deadlines and files
  • Experience using tax preparation software in a structured work environment
  • CPA or EA credential is valued, though not required
